About
Roaming Bean Coffee
Great coffee, real hospitality, and a community built one cup at a time.
Our Story
Roaming Bean Coffee started with a simple idea: serve genuinely great coffee, and take the time to actually connect with the people drinking it.
We're an outdoors family, always biking, running, and spending mornings by the water. And every time we wanted a really good cup of coffee, we had to drive back into the city for it. That felt backwards. The best part of the day was already happening outside. So in July 2023, founder Jasraj Sangha set out to bring a truly great cup, and a real conversation, to people right where they already wanted to be.
We started small on purpose. A tent, a cart, and a single espresso machine at the Berkeley Waterfront, run for nearly two years by family and friends before we ever hired outside help. That slow start is where the whole identity of Roaming Bean Coffee was built, one cup at a time, in the early light by the bay.
Today we have a permanent home at the Berkeley Waterfront, an outdoor cafe steps from the water. Organic Straus milk, house-made syrups, and drinks made to order, with the same care whether you're our first customer of the day or our hundredth.
We still bring the cart to events across California, too. Weddings, corporate gatherings, private parties, and celebrations of every kind. Same coffee, same hospitality, just on the move.
Meet the Founder
Hi, I'm Jasraj, the founder of Roaming Bean Coffee.
My path here wasn't a straight line. I studied Economics and Public Policy at UC Berkeley, then spent two years with the Peace Corps in Uganda. That's where coffee really got interesting. I saw how much work goes into a single bean long before it ever reaches a cup, and it stuck with me.
Coffee had always been part of my life back home too. I was a home barista for years, the kind who plans trips around good cafes. And the Marina was my place long before any of this, where I'd come to breathe during the busy Berkeley years. So when it came time to build something of my own, it all pointed the same direction: bring a genuinely great cup, and a real conversation, to people right where they already are, out by the water.
What started as a tent and a single machine, run by family and friends, is now a home at the Berkeley Waterfront and a cart that travels across California. However you find us, the goal is the same. Slow down, enjoy a great cup, and stay a little longer.
What We Stand For
Quality in Every Cup
Hospitality First
Community Rooted
We use organic Straus milk, house-made syrups from real ingredients, and dairy-free options across the menu. Thoughtful choices in every cup.
Coffee is the medium, but connection is the point. We take the time to know our regulars, welcome newcomers, and make everyone feel like they belong.
From our spot on the Berkeley Waterfront to the events we serve across California, we show up for the communities that show up for us.
